[Musk says he spends almost no time thinking about cryptocurrencies]Elon Musk recently said that he doesn’t pay much attention to cryptocurrencies. In a Dec. 21 conversation with Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood, Musk responded to questions about Bitcoin’s possible impact on the financial system, saying he had little regard for cryptocurrencies. Musk talked about his long-term thinking about the nature of money, arguing that money is merely a database for the allocation of resources. He believes that as long as the government does not abuse its power, fiat currency is feasible as a database for resource allocation.Musk also likened the currency system to an information system, emphasizing the importance of reducing noise, latency and packet loss. Inflation adds noise to the system, he noted.Although Musk himself has little interest in cryptocurrencies, Tesla Inc. appears to still hold digital assets. Tesla held $184 million worth of digital assets as of the end of September 2021, making it the third-largest public company holding Bitcoin, behind MicroStrategy and Marathon Digital Holdings. Additionally, Tesla accepts Dogecoin as a payment method.
